Hollywood sees cracks in gay "glass closet"

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Hollywood's "glass closet" may not be shattered, but with stars such as Ellen DeGeneres and T.R. Knight openly out and shows like "The L Word" proving popular in recent years, insiders say being gay or lesbian is no longer a career breaker for celebrities.

The California Supreme Court on Wednesday gave a final approval for gay marriages in the state, clearing the way for talk show host DeGeneres and her girlfriend of four years, actress Portia de Rossi, to marry as planned.

Last week actress Lindsay Lohan, 21, was the subject of widespread talk in celebrity magazines that she was having a lesbian affair with friend Samantha Ronson, prompting some in Hollywood to encourage her to go public with the relationship.

If she did, it might not hurt her career, as it most definitely would have only a few years ago. In fact, say many gay Hollywood players, it has not hurt theirs.

"After publicly coming out, I haven't noticed a difference," "Grey's Anatomy" star T.R. Knight told Reuters at an event to celebrate gay marriage in West Hollywood.

But Knight, who was forced by a colleague to disclose publicly he was gay, noted he had a steady job, which cannot be said for others.

Actor Rock Hudson kept his homosexuality a secret for decades for fear it would hurt his ability to win leading-man roles. His death to AIDS-related illness in 1985 shocked Americans, and when DeGeneres publicly came out in the late 1990s it caused a media sensation.

But by early this decade, TV show "Will & Grace," about the lives of a gay man and straight woman, had become a critical and audience hit, a sign of increasing public acceptance.

Carl Barat: 'The Libertines would only reunite to make an album'

Dirty Pretty Things frontman Carl Barat has said that the only reason he would reunite with Pete Doherty to reform The Libertines would be to make a new studio album.

Speaking to The Independent, Barat suggested that he would consider working again with his former bandmate once Dirty Pretty Things had run its course.

"Once I've done what I'm doing now [Dirty Pretty Things], it [reuniting with Doherty] won't be hard at all," he said. "It may detract in the short term from what I'm trying to achieve.

"It's certainly a friendship I cherish. But I want to let it be for a while. A lot of my friends say you should only do a reunion if you're going to write a new album. I agree. Otherwise it's just a cash-cow, a glory-milker.

"I've still got a 'Libertine' tattoo on my arm."

Kiss: 'We Have More Money Than Some Small Countries'

US rock band Kiss have claimed to have a greater total wealth than a number of small countries.

In an interview with the Guardian newspaper, neither signer and guitarist Paul Stanley or bassist Gene Simmons revealed how much they were worth.

However, Simmons – who has an individual wealth reported to be near $100million – did say that they felt “very blessed”.

“It's a privilege to do what we do - and let's say we make a living," he continued.

"Margaret Thatcher set the record straight: it's not having money that's the root of all evil."

Kiss will headline the Download Festival in Donnington next month. Tickets for the festival have sold out.

One of various anonymous projects linked to the mystical Berlin dub-techno duet Moritz Von Oswald and Mark Ernestus, Rhythm & Sound released a series of 10" records on Burial Mix and 12" records on Rhythm & Sound, both labels distributed by Hardwax. Von Oswald and Ernestus' Rhythm & Sound recordings ar much more dub-influenced and less techno-orientated than the duo's premature, and more legendary, dub-techno recordings as Basic Channel and Von Oswald's solo work as Maurizio. Where those earlier recordings synthesized a Detroit-influenced style of minimum techno with dub-reggae bass lines, the late-'90s Rhythm & Sound productions emphatic the dub-reggae esthetic quite than the more dancefloor-orientated techno well-grounded of the early-'90s Basic Channel and Maurizio recordings. Thus, the Rhythm & Sound records, which often featured reggae singer Paul St. Hilaire, weren't quite as democratic or long-familiar as the duo's Basic Channel recordings, which rather retained their popularity over the age, becoming quite an legendary and oft-cited within the techno shot. Nonetheless, Von Oswald and Ernestus' Rhythm & Sound work prevailed into the former 2000s, organism compiled on two listener-friendly CDs, Case (1998) and Rhythm & Sound (2001).

Pete 'dead' in the name of art

HERE'S one way to hopefully shock PETE DOHERTY into getting help.

Scottish painter PETER HOWSON has drawn six pastels, entitled I Am The
Dead, of how the infamous musician may end up if he doesn't clean up his act.

The former LIBERTINES star today announced three acoustic shows at
Brixton Mass on June 17, 18 and 19.

But before fans get too excited, the rocker was up to his old tricks again
last night when he failed to show for a Paris gig.

Initial rumours suggested the troubled musician had been hospitalised, but it
seems Pete was simply stuck on a Eurostar train and delayed for four hours.
